Connecting a Source

General Setup Flow

Connecting a source follows the same pattern regardless of platform:

1. Navigate to Settings → Sources in your Kowiki dashboard.
2. Click Add Source and select your platform.
3. Complete the OAuth or app installation flow to authorize Kowiki.
4. Select the folders, sites, or repositories you want to sync.
5. Click Save & Sync to begin the initial import.

The initial sync duration depends on the volume of content. Monitor progress on the Sources page.

Kowiki operates in read-only mode for all sources — it never modifies, deletes, or creates files in your connected platforms.

Supported File Types

All sources share the same set of supported file types:

• Word documents (.docx) — Full content converted to wiki pages
• PDFs — Text content extracted and indexed
• Markdown files (.md, .mdx) — Rendered with formatting preserved
• Plain text files (.txt) — Imported as-is
• Google Docs — Full content converted (Google Drive only)
• Dropbox Paper — Content exported and converted (Dropbox only)

Folder structure is preserved — folders become sections in your wiki. Unsupported file types (images, videos, spreadsheets) are skipped, though spreadsheet metadata (title, last modified) may be captured.

Source-Specific Details

Google Drive

Account type	Google Workspace or personal Google account
Permissions requested	drive.readonly, userinfo.email
What you select	Folders (including shared drives)
Folder structure	Preserved as sections
Admin requirement	Google Workspace admin may need to allow third-party apps

Tips:

• Shared drives appear in the picker if your account has access. If one is missing, confirm membership with your Workspace admin.
• Google Sheets import metadata only — not cell content.
• Files in Trash are not synced.

SharePoint

Account type	Microsoft 365 with SharePoint access
Permissions requested	Sites.Read.All, Files.Read.All, User.Read
What you select	Sites, then document libraries or folders within each site
Folder structure	Document library folders map to sections
Admin requirement	Microsoft 365 admin likely needs to grant consent

Tips:

• If you see "Needs admin approval," ask your admin to approve Kowiki in Azure Active Directory → Enterprise Applications.
• SharePoint list data, OneNote notebooks, and non-document content types are not imported.
• Recently created sites may take a few minutes to appear in the picker.

OneDrive

Account type	Personal Microsoft account or Microsoft 365 business
Permissions requested	Files.Read, User.Read
What you select	Folders from your OneDrive
Folder structure	Preserved as sections
Admin requirement	Business accounts may require admin consent

Tips:

• Kowiki auto-detects personal vs. business accounts.
• Shared folders must be added as shortcuts to "My Files" in OneDrive before they appear in the picker.
• For syncing team document libraries, consider connecting SharePoint instead.

Dropbox

Account type	Dropbox Basic, Plus, Professional, or Business
Permissions requested	Read-only file and account access
What you select	Folders (including team folders on Business plans)
Folder structure	Preserved as sections
Admin requirement	Business admins may need to allow in Admin Console → Third-party apps

Tips:

• Team folders appear alongside personal folders if you have access.
• If you're added to a new team folder after setup, click Edit Folders to include it.
• Dropbox Paper documents are exported and converted automatically.

GitHub

Account type	Personal or organization member
Permissions requested	GitHub App with repository read access
What you select	Repositories (all or specific), then optionally branches and paths
Folder structure	Repository directories map to sections
Admin requirement	Org admin may need to approve the GitHub App installation

Tips:

• Kowiki syncs Markdown files, READMEs, and repository wikis — not source code.
• .gitignore rules are respected — excluded files are not synced.
• Configure a specific branch (default: main/master) and path filter (e.g., /docs) per repository for targeted sync.
• Private org repos require the org admin to approve the GitHub App.

Reconnecting After Token Expiry

OAuth tokens expire periodically for all platforms. If a connection shows "Disconnected":

1. Go to Settings → Sources and find the affected connection.
2. Click Reconnect to re-authenticate.
3. Your folder/repository selections are preserved — no need to reconfigure.

Common Issues
