App Connection Issues
Kowiki integrates with Slack and Microsoft Teams to deliver knowledge directly in your team's communication tools. If the app is not installing, responding, or displaying correctly, use this guide to troubleshoot.
Slack issues
Can't install the Slack app
Installing the Kowiki Slack app requires workspace-level permissions. If the installation fails:
- Confirm you have admin permissions β You need to be a Slack Workspace Admin or Owner to approve app installations. If you are not, ask your Slack admin to install the app or approve it in the Slack App Directory.
- Check app approval settings β Some workspaces restrict app installations to admin-approved apps only. Go to your Slack admin panel β Manage Apps and verify that Kowiki is not blocked.
- Try from the Kowiki dashboard β Navigate to Settings β Apps β Slack and click Install to Slack to start the OAuth flow from the Kowiki side.
For full setup instructions, see Slack Integration.
Slack commands not responding
If slash commands or mentions of the Kowiki bot produce no response:
- Verify the workspace connection β Go to Settings β Apps in Kowiki and confirm your Slack workspace shows as "Connected."
- Reinstall the app β Token issues can cause silent failures. Remove the Kowiki app from Slack (Slack Settings β Manage Apps β Kowiki β Remove), then reinstall it from your Kowiki dashboard.
- Check channel permissions β In private channels, the Kowiki bot must be explicitly invited. Type
/invite @Kowiki in the channel.
Bot not appearing in channel
The Kowiki bot does not automatically join channels. To use it in a specific channel:
- Open the channel where you want Kowiki available.
- Type
/invite @Kowiki or click Add apps in the channel details panel. - The bot responds to mentions and commands only in channels where it has been added.
Microsoft Teams issues
Can't add the Teams app
Microsoft Teams app installation often requires organization-level consent:
- Confirm you have Teams admin permissions β You need to be a Teams Administrator or Global Administrator to install apps for your organization.
- Request admin consent β If your organization restricts third-party apps, an admin must grant consent in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center β Settings β Integrated Apps.
- Check the Teams app policies β Your Teams admin may have an app permission policy that blocks third-party apps. Ask them to allow the Kowiki app.
For full setup instructions, see Microsoft Teams Integration.
Teams tab showing blank
If the Kowiki tab in Teams loads as a blank white or grey screen:
- Update your Teams client β Ensure you are running the latest version of Microsoft Teams. Older desktop clients may have rendering issues with embedded web apps.
- Clear the Teams cache β Close Teams, delete the cache folder, and reopen. On Windows:
%appdata%/Microsoft/Teams/Cache. On macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/Cache. - Try the web version β Open Teams in a browser to rule out desktop client issues. If it works in the browser, the desktop cache is likely the problem.
- Check pop-up blockers β Some browsers block the authentication pop-up needed to sign in to Kowiki within the tab.
Bot not appearing in a team or chat
The Kowiki bot must be added to each team or group chat where you want it available:
- Open the team or chat.
- Click the + icon or go to Manage team β Apps.
- Search for "Kowiki" and add it.
General checks
If none of the above steps resolve your issue:
- Verify the app is enabled in your Kowiki workspace under Settings β Apps. A disabled app does not respond to any commands.
- Confirm your Kowiki plan supports the integration you are trying to use. See Plans Overview.
- Check status.kowiki.co to rule out a service disruption.
