The AI Knowledge Agent is an intelligent assistant that answers questions using your entire Kowiki knowledge base as its source of truth. Instead of returning a list of pages to browse, the agent reads your documentation, synthesizes an answer in natural language, and cites the specific pages it drew from.
The agent is available wherever your team works β in Slack, Microsoft Teams, and directly on your web wiki.
The AI Knowledge Agent uses retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) to produce answers grounded in your content:
Because answers are generated from your actual documentation, the agent does not fabricate information. When it cannot find relevant content, it tells you rather than guessing.
| Feature | Basic search | AI Knowledge Agent |
|---|---|---|
| Input | Keywords or phrases | Natural language questions |
| Output | List of matching pages | Synthesized answer with citations |
| Follow-ups | New search required | Conversational thread with context |
| Coverage | Matches in titles and body text | Understands meaning across multiple pages |
| Result format | Page links ranked by relevance | Paragraph-level answer with source links |
Basic search remains available and is useful when you know a page exists and want to navigate directly to it. The AI Knowledge Agent excels when you need an answer that may span multiple pages or when you are unsure which page contains the information.
The AI Knowledge Agent is included on Pro+ and Business plans. Workspaces on Free or Starter plans do not have access to this feature. See Plans Overview for a full comparison of plan features.
The agent respects your existing section-level permissions. A user only receives answers derived from content they are authorized to view. If a page is restricted to a specific team or role, it is invisible to the agent when answering questions from users outside that group.

Workspace admins control whether the AI Knowledge Agent is active. When enabled, the chat interfaces appear across all supported platforms. When disabled, those interfaces are hidden and integration commands return a notice that the feature is off.
For setup instructions, see Enabling and Disabling the AI Knowledge Agent.
