Deleting Your Account
Overview
Kowiki supports two types of deletion: deleting your personal account and deleting a workspace. Each has different requirements, consequences, and processes.
Both actions are significant and require confirmation. Read this guide carefully before proceeding.
Deleting your personal account
Deleting your personal account removes you from Kowiki entirely. This action is irreversible.
What happens when you delete your account
- You are removed from all workspaces you belong to.
- Your personal data (name, email, avatar) is permanently deleted.
- Content you authored remains in your workspaces but is anonymized β your name is replaced with "Deleted User."
- Active sessions on all devices are terminated immediately.
- You can no longer sign in with this email address.
Before you delete
- If you are the sole Owner of a workspace, you must transfer ownership to another member or delete the workspace first. You cannot delete your account while you are the only Owner of an active workspace.
- Download any personal data you want to keep. Once deleted, your information cannot be recovered.
Steps to delete your personal account
- Click your avatar in the bottom-left corner of the sidebar.
- Select Profile Settings.
- Scroll to the Danger Zone section at the bottom.
- Click Delete Account.
- Read the summary of what will happen.
- Type your email address to confirm.
- Click Permanently Delete Account.
You receive a confirmation email after deletion completes. This action cannot be undone.
Deleting a workspace
Deleting a workspace removes the workspace and all its content permanently. Only the workspace Owner can perform this action.
For details on roles and permissions, see Roles Explained.
What happens when you delete a workspace
- All content (pages, sections, documents) within the workspace is removed.
- All data connections and sync configurations are deleted.
- All team members lose access immediately.
- The workspace slug becomes available for others to claim.
- Billing for the workspace stops at the end of the current billing period. See Managing Your Subscription for details.
Data retention period
After workspace deletion, Kowiki retains workspace data for 30 days before permanent deletion. During this period:
- The workspace is not accessible to any user.
- No data is visible or recoverable through the app.
- You can contact support within 30 days to request restoration.
After 30 days, all workspace data is permanently and irreversibly deleted from Kowiki systems.
Steps to delete a workspace
- Click the gear icon in the bottom-left corner of the sidebar.
- Select Workspace Settings.
- Scroll to the Danger Zone section at the bottom.
- Click Delete Workspace.
- Read the summary of what will be removed.
- Type the workspace name to confirm.
- Click Permanently Delete Workspace.
All team members receive an email notifying them that the workspace has been deleted.
