Visual Content Map

The visual content map provides a bird's-eye view of your entire knowledge base structure. Instead of moving pages and sections one at a time through menus, you can drag and drop content to reorganize everything in a single interface.

Accessing the visual content map

1. Open your knowledge base and click Content Map in the top navigation bar.
2. The map displays all sections and their pages in a visual layout.

You need Editor or Admin permissions to make changes in the content map. Readers can view the map in read-only mode.

Understanding the layout

The content map displays your knowledge base as a tree structure:

• Sections appear as containers with their icon and name.
• Sub-sections are nested visually inside their parent sections.
• Pages appear as items within their containing section.
• Connection lines show the parent-child relationships between sections.

You can zoom in and out using scroll or pinch gestures, and pan across the map by clicking and dragging on empty space.

Moving pages between sections

1. Locate the page you want to move in the content map.
2. Click and hold the page item.
3. Drag it over the destination section — the section highlights when it is ready to accept the drop.
4. Release to drop the page into its new section.

The page retains all its content, metadata, and sync status. Only its location in the hierarchy changes.

Reordering pages within a section

1. Click and hold a page inside a section.
2. Drag it above or below other pages in the same section.
3. A placement indicator shows where the page will land.
4. Release to confirm the new order.

Page order in the content map determines the display order readers see when browsing that section.

Reorganizing sections

You can restructure sections the same way:

1. Click and hold a section container.
2. Drag it to a new position at the top level, or drop it onto another section to make it a sub-section.
3. Release to confirm.

All pages and sub-sections inside the moved section travel with it. Permissions stay intact.

Bulk operations

The content map supports selecting multiple items at once for batch actions.

Selecting multiple items

• Click and drag on empty space to draw a selection box around multiple pages or sections.
• Hold Shift and click individual items to add them to your selection.
• Ctrl+A (or Cmd+A on Mac) selects all visible items.

Bulk actions

With multiple items selected, you can:

• Move — Drag the entire selection to a new section.
• Change section — Right-click and choose Move to Section, then pick the destination.
• Delete — Right-click and select Remove Pages to remove native pages or unlink synced pages.

Bulk operations apply to all selected items simultaneously.

When to use the content map

The visual content map is the best tool when you need to:

• Restructure after a large import — After connecting a new source, use the map to sort imported pages into the right sections.
• Audit your organization — Quickly spot sections that are too large, too small, or misplaced.
• Onboard a new team — Rearrange content to match a new team structure or workflow.
• Plan your hierarchy — Visualize how sections nest before committing to a structure.

For single-page moves or quick section edits, using the ⋯ menu on individual items may be faster. The content map shines when you are working with multiple items or need to see the full picture.

Tips for effective reorganization

• Zoom out first — Get the full picture of your knowledge base before making changes.
• Work in stages — Reorganize one area at a time rather than reshuffling everything at once.
• Check permissions after moving — Pages inherit the permissions of their new section. Verify that sensitive content remains appropriately restricted after reorganization. See Section-Level Permissions for details.
• Communicate changes — If you significantly restructure the wiki, let your team know so they can find their bookmarked content.
